Farmers and workers of several opposition parties staged protests against the Lakhimpur Kheri violence across the nation. They chanted slogans, displayed placards and burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In Lucknow and New Delhi, many Congress workers were detained by the police. Earlier, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had been arrested after a case was registered against her at the Hargaon police station in Sitapur. The PAC guest house, in which she was kept after detention, has been notified as a temporary jail. Priyanka Gandhi was on her way to meet the family members of the victims.
