NIGERIA LNG Limited, NLNG has been named Best Corporate Training Partner 2025 by the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) at the 4th edition of the OGTAN Human Capital Development (HCD) Awards held in Lagos.
The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, who said the recognition underscores the company’s consistent commitment to workforce development, skills transfer, and capacity building in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
OGTAN commended NLNG for its sustained investment in training, partnerships with accredited providers, sponsorship of industry programmes, and technical education initiatives delivered through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda.
Receiving the award on behalf of the company, Emmanuel Uleh, Head of Nigerian Content Compliance Assurance & Monitor, said human capital development has remained central to NLNG’s operations since inception.
“At inception, NLNG deliberately promoted local capacity development by training Nigerian technicians and operators for the operation and maintenance of its plant on Bonny Island. Today, this strategy has yielded remarkable results: NLNG boasts a 100% Nigerian management team and a workforce that is over 95% Nigerian,” Uleh said.
He explained that through targeted initiatives and strategic partnerships, NLNG has empowered thousands of Nigerians with technical and vocational skills. Over 600 Nigerians, he noted, have been trained locally and in South Korea in highly specialised areas such as naval architecture, shipbuilding, welding, and fabrication under the Bonny Gas Transport Plus Project.
In collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and OGTAN, more than 150 Nigerians have received training under NLNG’s asset projects. Under its Train 7 Project Human Capital Development scheme, over 400 Nigerians are currently in training, including more than 140 in plant maintenance and over 200 community youths preparing for future operations.
Beyond technical development, Uleh said education remains a key pillar of NLNG’s CSR programmes, with scholarships awarded to students at secondary and undergraduate levels in Nigeria and postgraduate studies abroad in critical technical fields.
He stressed that NLNG’s efforts align with Nigeria’s national development priorities and reflect the company’s vision of being a globally competitive energy company driving a sustainable future.
