Tata Power Collaborates With Amazon India For ‘Dhaaga’s Women Entrepreneurs’

The women’s empowerment project’ Dhaaga’ by Tata Power is all set to extend the reach of its women entrepreneurs to a huge base of online shoppers in India. The company worked with Amazon India to leverage the scale and reach of Dhaaga’s female entrepreneurs by displaying and selling their products across the country.

The goods of Dhaaga will be introduced as part of the’ Amazon Saheli ‘ initiative of the e-commerce giant–a dedicated marketplace on the website to help showcase and sell products made by these women listed on Amazon in different categories. Dhaaga is also a Tata Power registered trademark today.

Launched in 2015, Tata Power’s Dhaaga is a women-only micro-enterprise project that helps its members build a livelihood on the basis of Tata Power’s vocational skills.  What began with 16 women in Maval in Maharashtra today has more than 1,000 members in seven more states including Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

Dhaaga’s popularity was founded on the twin objective of providing marketable vocational skills through educating women craftsmen in the manufacture of ready-made garments while maintaining the country’s local art forms.  Dhaaga members have been able to earn an additional household income on average between Rs. 24,000 and Rs. 60,000 a year since 2015, after acquiring the skills.

While this partnership will provide these women with a host of services and support systems to better understand the product, it will also speed up and assist them through a professional partner in the onboarding process. It will also provide resources for imagery and cataloging, product collection, discounted referral fees and free account management.

According to Mr. Praveen Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power- He said that They are extremely pleased to create an ecosystem that not only provides Dhaaga women members with additional household income, but also acts as an impetus to preserve some of India’s traditional forms of art. They would like to thank Amazon India for working with them and hope to be able to expand these horizons for their female entrepreneurs.

The Tata Power Dhaaga initiative is dedicated to empowering women by helping them develop the right skills to become financially independent and improve their socio-economic status. Today leaders of Dhaaga have demonstrated the ability to be ambitious entrepreneurs and to offer their dedication to their clients. Joining Amazon’s hands is a good step in this direction to improve their skills.- Said by Shalini singh, chief- Corporate communications & sustainability, Tata Power

According to Pranav Bhasin, Head – MSME Empowerment & Seller Experience, Amazon, India- He said that They are pleased to partner with the’ Dhaaga’ project of Tata Power and empower women entrepreneurs through the Amazon Saheli program to enter e-commerce. Through the initiative, they provide unprecedented access to consumers for women entrepreneurs and assist their companies with world-class logistics and fulfillment facilities. They have introduced 120,000 female entrepreneurs to the network over the past year, and they look forward to welcoming and encouraging Dhaaga members on their business journey.

Implemented in collaboration with the Tata Projects Community Development Trust (TPCDT), the organization aims to reach out to all potential female entrepreneurs who may be affected by this partnership. TPCDT must ensure that each of these female entrepreneurs is enrolled for GST and is available for sale on Amazon.
